Gun owners must store firearms locked so they’re inaccessible to children under 18, prohibited persons, or people at risk of self-harm or harming others (home, car, or any place you leave a gun).
Violations can bring civil fines up to about $10,000, with more serious penalties if an unsecured gun is accessed and someone is injured or killed.
Owners must report lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours of discovering they’re missing (shortened from 72 hours).
